Travel foods

Here are some of our travel food ideas.  These are just some of the snacks we use and also some of the dinner meals we use when traveling.  My favorite foods are stir fry and the packet meals cooked in aluminum foil.  With the packet meals, each person can pick the foods he or she wants to go in the packet and it’s delicious.  You can store these in plastic containers as well as pre-wrapped baggies for each person.

  • Homemade Chex Mix (lots of it)
  • Bottles of water
  • Boxes of crackers
  • Fudge (Make a few days before you leave.  Put in containers and use as a sweet snack instead of buying expensive desserts.)
  • Health food bars
  • Pop tarts (These aren’t my favorite travel food as they are very messy in a car, but they work in a pinch!)
  • Oatmeal
  • Carrot sticks
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables bought along the way  (Do not buy these in advance unless you’re going to dehydrate them.)
  • Sandwich wraps (including flat bread, lettuce, tomatoes, condiments from cooler, etc.)
  • String cheese for snacks
  • Bagels
  • Cream cheese (kept in cooler)
  • Packet meals (chicken, vegetables, teriyaki or other sauce, etc.)
  • Stir fry
  • Banana bread  (Make this a day or two in advance and take some in plastic bags or aluminum foil.  Keeps well in top of cooler, away from moisture.)
  • Beef jerky
  • Candies for snacks
